Vote for a Change ...
June 10, 2008 - Democratic Primary Election
ISSUES THAT SHOULD CONCERN THE VOTER
Are you concerned:

1: We have over 75% turnover in the Sheriff's Office since last election.

2. Why has the Sheriff's Office had no policy & procedures manual in place for over 4 years.

3. Our Sheriff eliminated our drug awareness program for the youth in our county.

4. The county jail officers are not armed when transporting sentenced inmates to prison.

If any of this list concern you then you need to vote for change.
VOTE DAVID TAYLOR SHERIFF.
Stability

We all are aware that you cannot build a house without a firm foundation. We have to stabilize the turnover rate within the Sheriff's Dept. for Union County. The turnover rate in the Sheriff's Office is over 75% since the last election.
I have been in supervision for most of my working career and I know what the key factors are to a large turnover problem.
We all know that salary and benefits are keys to stabilizing turnover,  but the key is keeping up morale. Morale is the mental condition related to courage, confidence and enthusiasm. Morale is a direct reflection of the supervisor and can lead to instability of the workplace.
Policy & Procedure issues:

Why has the current Sheriff been operating the department without a policy & procedures manual for the last 4 years?

Integrity

I want to bring to the Sheriff's Dept. a new high level of integrity. I will put in a policy & procedures manual not only for the deputies to operate from but for the Sheriff as well. I will immediately put a policy & procedures manual in place to serve as a tool to give guidance to the deputies as they preform their duties. This will protect the county from lawsuits of neglect and improper procedures in carrying out their duties of law enforcement. Common sense leadership.
